2007-2008 Season
The 2008 Ashford men's track team looks to veteran leadership as it returns to competition this spring. Augustana College transfer Caleb Snyder (Winnebago, IL) should challenge for the Conference title in the long jump and Franklin Barnes (Chicago, IL) looks to improve on his 2006 Midwest Collegiate Conference performances and challenge for a top spot in the Conference in the 110 and 400 meter hurdles. Senior Chris Sheridan (Clinton, IA) returns for his senior year to compete in the shot put for the Saints.
Freshmen to watch include Geofrey Chepkonway from Kenya who has run a personal best of 1:49 in the 800m, Keven Griffin Jr. (East St. Louis, IL) who has cleared 15 feet in the pole vault and Andrew Drinkall (Hooppole, IL) who has also run sub 2:00 in the 800m. Maurice Blanton (Chicago, IL) and Duncan Vorgey (Camanche, IA) will add depth in the sprints for the Saints.
"With the mix of veterans and newcomers on the men's side, it will be exciting to watch the team mature as a group," said David Thompson, Head Field and Track Coach. "I am very excited to see this group improve through the course of the season."

(david.thompson@ashford.edu)
David Thompson has been hired as Ashford University's Men's and Women's Track and Field Coach. Thompson joins the Saints program with extensive track and field experience, including success as a student-athlete at North Central College, a NCAA Div. III powerhouse in the sport. Thompson's most recent coaching stint was as an assistant coach at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL.
Thompson began developing his track and field resume as a student-athlete at North Central College in Naperville, IL. He was named All-American 11 times and was a three-time National Champion. He served as the captain of the track and field team from 1994-1998. After completing his eligibility, Thompson was a student assistant at North Central, concentrating in events he had not participated in as an athlete. After graduating, Thompson pursued his dream of qualifying for the Olympics by training in Indianapolis, IN, with the Indiana Invaders, a Nike sponsored professional track and field club. While training full time, Thompson participated in instructional clinics for coaches and pursued his USATF Level 1 Coaching certification.
Thompson joined the staff at Augustana in 2004, concentrating primarily in sprints, jumps, and multi-events. While there, he developed 16 All-Conference performers as well as 3 NCAA national qualifiers.
Meg Schebler, Athletics Director at the University, is looking forward to working with the Athletics department's newest member. "Dave Thompson is a great addition to our staff and our university. He brings with him an excellent background in the sport and is a person of exceptional character and integrity. He has a clear understanding of the high academic standards we hold our athletes to, and is knowledgeable of the role recruiting and retention plays in athletics. Coach Thompson is committed to developing and operating an outstanding program, and we are excited for the future."
