The Ashford University® Library coordinates university-wide access to a variety of research resources in online, microform, and paper formats.
University librarians teach a course in Information Literacy as part of the Freshman Experience course and are available for assistance on campus, online, and by phone.
Instructional aids for resources and services are available on the librarys Information Rack (located in the reference area on the main level) and online in the Ashford Campus Library or Ashford Online Library pages, accessible through the Student Portal.
LIBRARY HOLDINGS
The library holdings include 100,000+ volumes, 650+ periodicals and journals, 70,000+ microform units, and 700+ audio/visual titles. You will also find study areas, computers, printers, copiers, and punch-binding and lamination services available for use. Heres a quick guide to locate what you need:
LIBRARY MAIN LEVEL:- Reference Collection
- The print collection is shelved in the main level of the library, and is available for use in the library only. The digital collection is accessible from the online or campus library links found in the Student Portal.
- Curriculum Center (CC)
- The CC supports University education programs by providing access to more than 5,000 print and non-print instructional materials. All patrons may access these materials in the library, but only faculty and students currently participating in Ashford Universitys education courses can borrow these materials.
- Special Collections
- The Child and Young Adult Literature Collection and the Franciscan Collection are housed on the main level of the library. These collections are accessible to all patrons, but only faculty and students participating in subject-specific courses can borrow these materials. The Media Collections (VHS, DVD) are also found on the main level; these are stored in the Library Workrooms and are accessible from 8 am-5 pm, Monday thru Friday.
- Computers, Printers, and Copiers
- There are two printers/copiers available for student and faculty use on the main level of the library. You will also find computers and a microform reader/copier on the main level.
- Punch-binding and Lamination Services
- Punch-binding and lamination services, as well as the use of AccuCut die-cut machines, are available to the Ashford University community, free of charge. These services are in the Library Workrooms (main level) on weekdays from 8 am-5 pm.

- Circulating Collection
- The Circulating Collection is the 100,000+ volume collection of materials that may be borrowed by students, faculty, and consortium members.
- Back-Issue Periodicals
- The back-issue periodicals are accessible with the assistance of a staff member. Please do not hesitate to ask for assistance!

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES
In addition to the physical library, there are a number of resources that grant you access to additional materials. You can search the PrairieCat catalog for electronic materials, you can request materials from other libraries through the Interlibrary Loan service, and you can utilize the many online resources available.
PRAIRIECAT ONLINE PUBLIC ACCESS CATALOG
Ashford University is a member of PrairieCat, which is a regional consortium online catalog for Illinois and parts of Iowa. There are 300+ member libraries in this consortium, and our membership allows students and faculty to borrow materials from any of the 300 libraries.
INTERLIBRARY LOAN SERVICES
Interlibrary Loan allows you to borrow materials that are not currently in the Ashford Library. Students and faculty can go to the PrairieCat online catalog to reserve regional materials. If you need access to materials that are not available on PrairieCat, ask your librarian about borrowing from the OCLC national network.
