College of Liberal Arts

Adam Deutsch is an Instructor in English at Ashford University’s College of Liberal Arts. He began working at Ashford in 2009 as an Instructional Specialist and an adjunct associate faculty before becoming full-time faculty. He holds an MFA in Poetry from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, an MA in English/Writing and a BA in English from Hofstra University, and an AA in Liberal Arts from Nassau Community College. His essays and poems have appeared in publications including
Rain Taxi Review of Books, Spinning Jenny, The Tusculum Review, Iron Horse Literary Review, Thin Air Magazine, Bar Owl Review, and Pedagogy Magazine. He has been teaching English and creative writing at the college level since 2005, and began working in literary publishing in 2006. His educational philosophy centers on the idea that teaching practices must always evolve. “Even if the materials in a class don’t often change, how they are approached must remain dynamic not only to honor the material, but to respect the students. It’s about constantly recognizing fluid contexts.” His favorite thing about teaching is helping others in a process of discovery whether through literature or their own writing, and at Ashford in particular, he appreciates the emphasis on writing in all areas regardless of the subject of study. Deutsch lives in San Diego, CA, where he brews beer, makes cheese, and is the publisher at Cooper Dillon Books.
