Layana Navarre-Jackson, PhD

Dr. Layana Navarre-Jackson is an Assistant Professor at Ashford University's College of Liberal Arts, where she teaches undergraduate courses in sociology. She was born and raised in New Orleans, LA where she attended Xavier University of Louisiana and obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 1997. After completing her Bachelor’s degree, Dr. Navarre-Jackson moved to Iowa and attended The University of Iowa, where she obtained a Master of Arts degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, a Master of Arts in Sociology, and a PhD in Sociology. She has taught undergraduate sociology courses not only in the traditional classroom but also as the instructor for one of the web-based sociology courses at the University of Iowa while even before completing her Ph.D. Program. In 2012, she moved to Denver, Colorado to begin teaching at Ashford University. She states that she was attracted to Ashford’s commitment to making quality higher education accessible to a more diverse range of students. When she is not working, Dr. Navarre-Jackson enjoys spending time with her family.
