Susan Hines, PhD
College of Liberal Arts
Dr. Susan Hines is an Associate Professor within the College of Liberal Arts at Ashford University. She holds a BA from the University of Alaska, an MA from the University of British Columba, and a PhD from Georgia State University. Prior to joining Ashford, she was an onsite Director of Instructional Technology for SunGard Higher Education (now Ellucian, Inc.); her principal clients included Delta State University in Mississippi and Wilkes University in Pennsylvania. She has also worked as the Director of Instructional Design for the Savannah College of Art and Design, and has held academic positions in English, digital media, and technical communications at La Salle University, Armstrong Atlantic State University, and Middle Georgia College. She currently lives in San Diego, CA, but has lived everywhere from the arctic to the former Czechoslovkia to the Mississippi Delta. She finds teaching to be eminently practical. “I have never much appreciated the familiar dig, ‘those who do, do; and those who don't, teach.’ When I cast about looking for the visible proof of what I do, I can see it everywhere – from the new-media gadgets I'm test-driving to the virtual work I do with faculty members and students online.” Her advice to students is to proofread and become their own best editors.
