A native San Diegan, Dr. Iris Lafferty is a fourth-generation educator who has grown up with what she describes as a very epic and heroic perspective of the value of teaching and educating. “I believe teachers have this crazy potential to positively influence and change lives.” As Associate Dean at the College of Education, she enjoys working with the faculty and staff, whom she calls “a dream team of very intelligent, innovative, and caring professionals…and they’re super funny!” Dr. Lafferty received her Bachelor’s in Psychology from UC San Diego and, motivated to study issues surrounding thinking, education, and psychology further, she pursued graduate work at Harvard University. There she earned two Master’s degrees and a Doctorate in Education. She has worked as a researcher, consultant to government agencies, and as lecturer at local colleges and universities. Her favorite positions include research work with the US Navy, the Education Development Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Harvard’s Project Zero.
