Carla has been in the health care industry for eight years, and you can tell how much she loves it from the excitement in her voice when she talks about work. “I really enjoy making a difference. Seeing their faces as the patients come in to see their provider, and seeing them smile after they leave the office, lets me know I’ve done my job.”
But Carla didn’t want to just do her job - she wanted to build a career. “I knew there was more to life than just being.” So, Carla did some research and enrolled at Ashford University. The last three years have not been easy, but they have been worth it. “Sometimes I fall asleep at my laptop, especially if it has been a long day at work. But I know that knowledge is power - it can open doors to great success. I want to inspire my children, and show them that an education gives you a head start.”
When asked how she is able to push through those moments of exhaustion and keep such a positive attitude, Carla explains, “Someone once told me that when you feel like giving up, you should remember why you held on for so long in the first place.” Carla holds on to the image of her 2012 graduation because she has a dream of opening her own health care facility. “I want to reach out to the low-income areas and give mothers knowledge on how to keep their babies healthy.
