Associate of Arts in Business

“I feel that my life has totally changed since I have enrolled here at Ashford; I now have the life I always wanted.”

Kymberlie Guidry, 24, is proof that pursuing higher education has positive consequences in the working world. A native of Louisiana, Kymberlie currently lives in Houston, Texas with her four-year-old daughter, Emma. She began her Associate’s degree in February 2010, and was hired by a public transportation company only a few months later. “If I had not been in school for business, I would not have been hired. I always thought that I had to have my degree before getting a great job. Now I know that by just being enrolled in school, I can get a great job!”

Kymberlie explains that she chose Ashford University primarily because of her experience with her Admissions Counselor. “He made me really think about my future, and, most of all, about my little girl.” About Kymberlie, Thomas says, “She is an awesome example of a successful single mother making a better life for her family. Kym has been getting good grades and has found a solid balance between career, school, and taking care of her daughter.”

Pleased with her own experience, Kymberlie talked to her family. “The day my sister told me she was going to call Thomas Kelly and enroll at Ashford was the best day ever. I was excited that changes in my life affected her life and her goals.” The two sisters have now been speaking with their mother, and she is considering going back to school, too!

In the long term, Kymberlie would like to open a learning center for children. “I love to teach children of all ages. Knowing that your children are learning what they need to grow feels great.” Until then, though, Kymberlie is happy to be a student and a mother. “I feel that my life has totally changed since I have enrolled here at Ashford; I now have the life I always wanted.”

Update:

When we last spoke to Kym, she was halfway finished with her degree program. "It's going fast! I will be walking down the aisle for graduation in October 2012, and I can't wait." For now, Kym is still working for the same company, and it's going great. "I've been getting great reports and just received my first raise ever. Making a better paycheck helps my stress level. I enjoy being able to live life without having to worry about how I am going to pay bills every month, and I get to spend more time with my baby girl, who is about to have her fifth birthday."
