"I hope to inspire my children and my husband.”

Lora Freeland of Eastgate, Ohio, is one of those rare people who truly appreciates education because she loves to learn. Lora is also a mother and, like many women, found the idea of going to school full-time a bit overwhelming. "I dropped out of college the first time, honestly, because I gave up. I got pregnant with my first child, and I did not think I could do it after having the baby." Over the next six years, Lora gave birth to four more children and is the proud mother of Aubry, Ella, Samantha, Molly, and Matthew.

With five children, Lora never dreamed she would be able to pursue her degree. But then she spoke with her cousin and realized that there were more opportunities available than she had thought. "My cousin, who is a stay-at-home mom to three kids, told me about Ashford's online programs. She told me that she was able to earn her Bachelor's degree." After considering her cousin's experience, Lora made a decision. "I had been out of college for nearly six years. I was scared, but I needed the self-satisfaction of having a degree. I was going to pursue my dream. One day, I just decided that I was going to take the plunge and enroll."

To help her along the way was her Admissions Counselor. "Lora had previously attended college but had to drop out while having her children, and she had always regretted that. She was extremely nervous about going back to school, but through a lot of support during her first class, Lora gained confidence. Her courage to take that first step has inspired me. It is being able to work with students like her that makes my job very worthwhile."

Lora is a proud graduate of Ashford, having earned her Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Management in 2012 at age 28.

When asked what motivated her, beyond her love of learning, Lora said it is all about her family. "I hope to inspire my children and my husband, as well as anyone else who is in the same boat as I am. If I can do it, then anyone can!"
