“The diversity of the student body was a pleasant surprise for me, and I am so fortunate to have met some great people from all over the world.”

Sergio Masi, 19, from the city of Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada, dreams of one day becoming a sports agent. In pursing a double major in Business Administration and Sports and Recreation Management, Sergio feels Ashford is equipping him well toward achieving that dream. “The education I am getting will be key as I progress in that field of work. I am also the recipient of Ashford’s Presidential Scholarship, which has covered my annual tuition costs, so I am very grateful.”

Sergio currently plays on the Ashford men’s nationally ranked soccer team and has found much success. Before playing with the Saints, Sergio was a member of the Manitoba provincial team and represented his province at the national level from ages 12 to 18.

In addition to playing soccer and studying, Sergio feels he has met wonderful people and made lifelong friendships at Ashford. “The diversity of the student body was a pleasant surprise for me, and I am so fortunate to have met some great people from all over the world.” And he believes the faculty members are just as impressive as the student body. “The quality of education is top of the line, and I have yet to find a professor I don’t like. I have nothing but nice things to say when speaking about the University and everything associated with it.”

Being part of the Ashford community while away at college is especially important to Sergio, who calls himself very family-oriented. “I owe all of my success – from on the field to in the classroom – to my loving parents. My father has provided the steppingstone I need to achieve my goals. He gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person: he believed in me.”

In the future, Sergio hopes to “acquire the proper certification needed to represent athletes at the professional level. My two degrees should serve as proper qualification, and I will have an impressive resume for this select career.”

Due to graduate in April 2014, he is one step closer to pursuing his dream job every day, and “would definitely recommend Ashford to high school seniors. I feel confident Ashford has properly prepared me for my future, which attending a University is all about.”
