“Ashford is perfect – small school, approachable instructors, close to home, and amazing people.”

While Kylie Willet was an Ashford University student, she was an excellent example of the passionate, determined, and talented students on Clinton campus. Kylie was a key player on the women’s soccer team and a valuable member of the Clinton, Iowa community, working on logos and projects for several area organizations, including the local Red Cross chapter.

A native of East Moline, IL and a graduate of United Township High School, Kylie chose Ashford University partly because of the small size and partly because it offered a Graphic Design major, but mainly because it enabled her to play collegiate soccer.

When we spoke to her in her first year at Ashford, Kylie admitted that learning to adjust to college life was a bit of a challenge. “In high school, your day is mapped out from 8 am to 3 pm; in college, it feels like you have more free time during the day, but it is the exact opposite. You have to find a good way to balance everything you do – classes, studying, clubs, games and practices, work, and social activities with your friends.” In her time at Ashford, Kylie certainly mastered that balance as a star soccer player, an excellent student, and a highly involved member of the Ashford community.

While at Ashford, Kylie led her soccer team to a Midwest Collegiate Conference title, which took them to the first round of the national tournament. She also earned several individual athletic recognitions, including: NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week, First Team All-MCC, AUSPY’s Breakthrough Athlete of the Year, and Player of the Year. Academically, she was on the Dean’s list every semester, earned the Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete award, and participated in the Scholars Institute, an invitation-only course that requires students to maintain a high GPA.

But these achievements only scratch the surface of who Kylie Willet is; beyond being a good student and athlete, Kylie is a career-minded artist. She majored in Computer Graphic Design with an emphasis in Print Media, and in her senior year she earned Gold, Silver, and Bronze for three of her submissions to the 2011 American Advertising Federation's ADDY Awards. In addition, she earned experience in the field through involvement in Ashford’s student organizations as the official publicist for the Student Government Association, Hall Council, and Fine Arts Club, and as Ashford’s athletics photographer.

For as much as Kylie contributed, she also appreciated the opportunity to be at Ashford. “Ashford is perfect – small school, approachable instructors, close to home, and amazing people.”
