College of Liberal Arts
Dr. Jennifer Harbour is an Associate Professor at Ashford University's College of Liberal Arts. A nineteenth-century social historian who writes about African-American women in their transition from slavery to emancipation, Dr. Harbour comes to Ashford from the University of Iowa, where she took her PhD in African American and women's/gender history. She also holds a Certificate on International Human Rights Law from Oxford University, an MA in History from The George Washington University, and a BA in History and English from Central Michigan University. She enjoys combining her two passions – history and teaching – into a professional life serving and developing relationships with students. She lives in West Branch, IA with her spouse, three children, and a cadre of pets. When Dr. Harbour isn't teaching, preparing to teach, or thinking about teaching, she enjoys gardening and plans a second career as a gardener in an English country house. There, she will be drinking tea, eating scones, and taking care of her pet hedgehog.
