Teresa Thomas, MBA
College of Health, Human Services, and Science
Teresa Thomas is a full-time faculty member in Ashford University’s College of Health, Human Services, and Science. She earned her Registered Nursing degree from Hurley School of Nursing and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Saginaw Valley State University. She also holds an MBA with a specialization in Health Care Management from University of Pheonix, and is currently seeking her doctorate in law with an emphasis in health care. After beginning her health care career in finance, she moved to hospital in-patient nursing before taking on various health care administration management roles at not-for-profit Physician Hospital Organizations (PHOs). Over the years, she has obtained clinical and financial experience in cardiology, critical care, oncology, occupational health, home health and hospice, emergency services, and business consulting. “The best part of working at Ashford,” she explains, “is the diversity of the students; their backgrounds and their professional experiences enhance the learning environment.” The core of her teaching philosophy involves the idea that students can reach beyond their own expectations and challenge their current beliefs. “This can be accomplished by creating an environment that nurtures their instinctual curiosities through sharing, expression of thought, problem solving, and encouraging creativity and awareness.” Ms. Thomas has three grown children, and she and her husband divide their time between Texas and Michigan.
