Dr. Katie Thiry is an Assistant Professor in the College of Business at Ashford University, where she teaches courses in training and development, research design and development, instructional leadership, and more. She has taught at Ashford since 2009. She completed her PhD with an emphasis in Training and Performance Improvement at Capella University, her Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership at St. Catherine University, and her Bachelor of Arts in Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. As a training and performance improvement consultant, she partners with organizations to implement successful training initiatives to increase the effectiveness and performance of their teams. She frequently uses her certification as a Master Trainer for the Achieve Global leadership development system. In her previous role as the Manager of Human Capital Development for a Fortune 50 company, she was responsible for the day-to-day operations of an enterprise-wide Learning Management System (LMS). It was in this technical role that she gained an increased appreciation for the use of technology to enhance learning experiences and working interactions. Prior to that role, she performed as a Senior Training Specialist for a television home shopping network and internet retailer, where she reviewed and evaluated courses and resources to address identified needs for the organization. In her experiences as a corporate trainer for another Fortune 50 company, her focus was on designing, developing, and delivering training initiatives. “As someone who has both designed custom training and performed as a facilitator of an international training system, I can speak to the quality of the courses at Ashford University. Our students have made a great choice by selecting Ashford!” She also serves as a Dissertation Mentor/Reviewer working collaboratively with doctoral students to guide them in the development of advanced academic skills to accomplish the capstone project of their doctoral program. Dr. Thiry and her husband Jason are native to the Midwest and have recently relocated back to the St. Paul, MN area after having lived in Seattle, WA and Southern California.
