Pamela Murphy, PhD

Dr. Pamela Murphy is an Assistant Professor in the College of Health, Human Services, and Science at Ashford University. She holds a PhD in Educational Research and Evaluation (Statistics Concentration) from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA; a Master of Business Administration from American International College in Springfield, MA; and a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from Hampshire College in Amherst, MA. Additionally, she holds a Virginia teaching license. Dr. Murphy’s varied career began in the graphics and print world, where she worked in print shops, ran a freelance graphics business, and published a small magazine. She then transitioned to computer software and began testing software and writing user’s manuals before become a systems analyst and working in technical support. Finally, she transitioned into education after taking a job as a computer instructor and falling in love with teaching. She has taught high school, adult basic education, undergraduate courses, and graduate courses in subjects including computers, English, graphics and printing, math, statistics, and research methods. She has been involved in original research in education, geriatrics, and psychology, with several published papers and conference presentations under her belt. Dr. Murphy has taught at Ashford since 2010. “Ashford University is top quality. The courses are designed carefully and are constantly being reviewed to make sure they are up-to-date and have the appropriate level of academic rigor.” One of her goals as a teacher is to help students develop as independent, self-regulated learners. “When you can take control of your learning, you can accomplish anything!” Dr. Murphy splits her time between Halifax, VA and Washington, DC and has two beautiful and talented adult daughters.
