Stanley Atkinson, DBA

Dr. Stanley Atkinson is an Assistant Professor in the College of Business and Professional Studies at Ashford University, where his areas of concentration are Finance, Economics, and Statistics. He holds a DBA in Finance from Mississippi State University in Starkville and an MBA as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from The University of Mississippi. He taught at The University of Mississippi from 1977-1981 and the University of Central Florida from 1981-2004, and, after quickly boring of retirement, began teaching at several schools in Orlando before joining Ashford’s faculty in 2010. With over 70 published articles and an award from the Journal of Accountancy in 2005 for the paper of the year, Dr. Atkinson is well versed in the nuances of finance and economics. “I particularly enjoy making these difficult course concepts come alive for the students, especially statistics! Since many students are afraid of any type of math or statistics, I try to bring real world examples to the class to make it meaningful. Here at Ashford, most of my MBA students are also full-time employees somewhere.” Dr. Atkinson finds it very satisfying when he knows “the light just went on for a student.” He lives in Savannah, GA with his wife, who is also an instructor for Ashford, and is an organic gardener with who grows most of the vegetables he and his wife eat.
