College of Education
Dr. Allison Rief is an Assistant Professor in the College of Education at Ashford University, teaching specifically in the Master’s in Education (MAED) program. She earned a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership with a specialization in Teacher Education in Multicultural Studies from University of Southern California, a Master of Education from University of California - Los Angeles, and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from University of California - San Diego. Dr. Rief began her career as a mentor and teacher’s aide in schools along the US/Mexico border. The experience made her realize she wanted a long-term career in education, in order to become an agent of change. She taught in the LA Unified School District for nearly a dozen years, earning a National Board Certification in 2006 and the honor of being named a Los Angeles Unified School District and Los Angeles Country Teacher of the Year in 2010. She says, “My favorite thing about Ashford is that it advocates life-long learning. I feel that education is the strongest form of personal improvement and I take great pride in helping students become better versions of themselves. I’ve found that it’s essential to get to know students in order to ensure that I can be their best guide as we co-construct knowledge together. If I know what motivates them, their preferred learning style, as well as their strongest weakness, I can differentiate my teaching to best meet their needs.” Dr. Rief currently resides in San Diego, CA with her husband and their young daughter. When not shaping the minds of her students, she loves traveling to exotic places and spending time outside – running, hiking, and lounging at the beach.
