Maja Zelihic, PhD
Forbes School of Business®

"I hope to inspire my students the way I was inspired by my teachers - with my enthusiasm, professionalism, and academic excellence."

Dr. Maja Zelihic is the Program Chair of the Master of Arts in Organizational Management in the Forbes School of Business at Ashford University. She has a PhD in General Business with an emphasis in Organizational Management from Capella University, a Master of Business Administration from University of Phoenix, and a Bachelor’s degree in Communications with a Minor in International Studies from University of North Florida. In 1996, she began working for a private label company that provides mortgage services for several major financial institutions. While there, she trained new and existing employees. Before joining Ashford’s faculty in the beginning of 2011, Dr. Zelihic also worked as an adjunct at several other universities.

Some of her academic activities aside from instruction include co-facilitation of faculty certification and mentorship programs, technology, and newsletter committee forces. Dr. Zelihic also enjoys doing research, specifically in the fields of marketing, business ethics, and management. She gave a lecture on Sports Management at the International Symposium of the New Technologies in Sports in Sarajevo, Bosnia in April 2011. Later that same year, she presented “The Arrogance on Top” (a research paper which brought forth ethical issues of a major corporation) at the Economics, Finance, and International Business Research Conference in Miami, FL. In Jan. 2013, she presented a co-authored paper titled “The Effect of Ethical Pricing” at the Global Business and International Management Conference. Her most recent publication, “Green Marketing: Fad or Reality?” was presented at the Academy of Business Research Conference in March 2013.

Dr. Zelihic says, “I can truly relate to the balancing act my students have to go through to manage their careers, their family obligations, and their desire to pursue higher educations because I had a similar educational journey. I am quite aware of what difference in a person’s life one’s educational experience may present. I realize how impactful I can be in my students’ lives if I go above and beyond in trying to assist them, help with their questions, and continue to provide my students with the much needed motivation. I hope to inspire my students the way I was inspired by my teachers - with my enthusiasm, professionalism, and academic excellence. Ashford’s faculty members have our student’s best interest in mind. We are here to help and they should never hesitate to contact us and discuss any questions they may have.” She lives in Jacksonville, FL with her spouse and two children – a boy and a girl.
