Dr. Cheryl Lemus is an Assistant Professor in the College of Liberal Arts at Ashford University. She earned her Doctorate in American History from Northern Illinois University and her Master of Arts in Public History and Bachelor of Arts in History from Loyola University Chicago. She started her teaching career in 2008 by instructing survey and upper division courses at Aurora University and Harper College. Two years later, she began teaching online history and humanities classes for several institutions, including American Intercontinental University Online and Excelsior College. Dr. Lemus enjoys the connections she makes with her students, whether it is online or in person. She says, “There is a lot of satisfaction when a student tells you that you have changed their minds regarding history. History is not about names, dates, and miscellaneous facts. History is messy, and it’s the reason I love it.” Dr. Lemus is also a contributor and the managing editor of the blog Nursing Clio, which reflects her background as a public historian (including work in historic preservation, archives, museums, and local history). Outside of teaching, researching, and writing, she and her husband are busy raising two children.
