Biography

Dr. Kathleen Lunsford is an Assistant Professor in the College of Education at Ashford University. She holds a doctorate in K-12 Future Studies and a Master of Science in Education Administration from Capella University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in British Military History from California State University-Sacramento. Dr. Lunsford has teaching credentials valid in Oregon and California. Her first teaching position was in an inner city elementary school where 95% of her students spoke a primary language other than English. From there, she went on to work as an item writer grading the Multiple Subject Assessment for Teachers (MSAT), California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST), and Oregon Educator Licensure Assessments (ORELA) and developing the High School Exit Exam for the states of California, Oregon, and Texas. Dr. Lunsford then worked as an administrator and teacher at one of the first virtual schools in the United States. Most recently, she has been employed as a capstone mentor of a competency based university. She says, “I enjoy seeing students attain their end goal and knowing my dedication as a professor has helped them reach their bigger future.” Dr. Lunsford encourages students to advocate for themselves when their path to a degree seems overwhelming, saying, “Take chances, speak up, and take a different path. You will get to the end if you strive to achieve and you and your family will be so thankful you did it.” Dr. Lunsford lives in Portland, OR with her fun-loving teenage son. When not working, she enjoys fly-fishing and gardening.
