Laurie Wellner, EdDCollege of Education
Dr. Laurie Wellner is an Assistant Professor in the College of Education at Ashford University. She earned a Doctor of Education with a concentration in Special Education and Organizational Leadership from the University of La Verne, a Master’s degree in Special Education from California State University- Sacramento, a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from California State University- San Bernardino, and a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education with a Minor in English from University of Nevada- Reno. She also completed two years of law school at Concord Law School. Dr. Wellner has worked in the field of education for over two decades, holding a variety of administrative and teaching roles. She specializes in dealing with autism, ADHD, Educationally Related Mental Health Services (ERMHS), program development, legal issues, organizational leadership within groups and teams, and communication and collaboration with stakeholders for improvements within the educational process. She has served as an expert witness, contributed to multiple committees, and taught as an adjunct professor for Claremont Graduate University and Touro College. At Ashford, Dr. Wellner instructs special education courses. She says, “I am energized when I help my students make new connections that are practical and can be implemented immediately. I tell them to take things one at a time, and they’ll be amazed how much they can learn, understand, and apply to their classrooms.” Dr. Wellner was raised in Sacramento, CA and now resides in southern California with her school administrator husband and their 3 dogs.
