Biography"As a professor, my focus is to ensure that my students understand the intricate details of the criminal justice system and how it affects our society."
Dr. James R. Jones is an Assistant Professor in the College of Liberal Arts at Ashford University. He earned his doctorate in Public Safety with a specialization in Criminal Justice from Capella University. His Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice and Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice are from University of Maryland Eastern Shore. He has worked in many different capacities in the criminal justice system including, but not limited to, positions as a police officer, juvenile corrections officer, case manager specialist, juvenile probation officer, and the Acting Director of Operations/Director of Juvenile Jail for New York City Administration for Children’s Services. In addition to Ashford, he has instructed at Everest University, Mercy College, and Berkeley College. He says, “Teaching is a large responsibility that must be taken seriously by those who are given the opportunity. As a professor, my focus is to ensure that my students understand the intricate details of the criminal justice system and how it affects our society. I enjoy being able to meet and teach students from many different geographical locations and walks of life.” Dr. Jones is a sports enthusiast, and in his spare time he likes to attend sporting events, travel, and relax with his family.
