College of Liberal Arts

Max Fassnacht is an Instructor in the College of Liberal Arts at Ashford University. He received his Master’s degree in History from the University of British Columbia and his Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from The Evergreen State College. Fassnacht has been teaching at Ashford since 2009. His research examines the relationship between alternative religions and conceptions of sexuality in Germany’s Weimar Republic. He sees human nature as something subject to change over time and views the study of history as an opportunity to explore those changes. Fassnacht encourages his students to approach the past with a sense of curiosity, investigating the aspects of history that most interest them. He advises them to see themselves as part of a community of learners and to use research and writing to stake their claim as individuals and thinkers. He says, “I love teaching at Ashford because students from all over the country – from all walks of life – come together to share their experiences and perspectives, and no two students look at history in the same way.”
