AU Expands Student Housing

In response to Ashford University’s ongoing student population growth, the school has purchased the Best Western Frontier Motor Inn in Clinton to serve as a permanent, fully functioning student dormitory.

A portion of the Best Western facility had previously been leased to the university to accommodate an expanding student body. But as Ashford’s attendance continued to climb, with 760 full-time students in 2010 – an almost 70 percent increase over 2009, John Ballheim, university vice president and campus director, said the proximity of the popular Inn to Ashford’s campus made the building an ideal addition to the university’s available dorm space.

“The Best Western had already proven to be a very good facility for our students, and the students are happy with it,” added Ballheim.

Ashford purchased the Best Western Frontier Motor Inn from the Baker family’s Frontier Hospitality Group, which also owns Best Westerns in Davenport and Dubuque. Purchase details were finalized on October 14. The Inn will operate through the end of October.
