Ashford University Plans AIDS Awareness Walk

Ashford University Plans AIDS Awareness Walk

On Wednesday, Dec. 1, the Ashford University Student Success Department will sponsor an AIDS Awareness Walk and the public is invited to participate.

“We are hoping to spread awareness about a disease that has affected the lives of so many people and to acknowledge the fact that many people live every day with this medical condition,” said Stacy Powers, Ashford University Student Development and Activities Coordinator. “We feel it is necessary to take a positive stance and acknowledge World Aids Day (December 1) by helping to educate our young people about prevention and awareness of this particular issue.”

The AIDS awareness event begins at 3 p.m. with a short program at Ashford’s new soccer field at the university’s South Campus. Participants will then walk to Ashford’s Bluff Campus for brownies and hot chocolate in the Student Center. At 4:30 p.m. a speaker from The AIDS Project will give a presentation.

All walkers and runners will receive a red scarf and red ribbon for participating in the event. The AIDS Awareness Walk is open and free to the public.

In the event of inclement weather, the group will be walking in the St. Francis gymnasium and around the AU campus.

For additional information, please contact Powers at 563.242.4023, ext.7380.
