Ashford University Selects Graduation Speaker

Ron Clark, who has been called “America's Educator,” has been chosen to give the keynote address during Ashford University’s spring 2011 graduation ceremony on Saturday, April 30.

This will be the first time a graduation ceremony has been held at Ashford’s new athletic complex located at 1650 S. 14th St., Clinton. The 11 a.m. event is expected to attract more than 1,000 graduates from across the United States and several other countries, as well as more than 4,500 guests, making it the largest graduation in Ashford’s history. Two “meet and greet” opportunities for graduates will be held on campus Friday.

To accommodate all of the expected guests at the graduation ceremony, Ashford has made arrangements for additional parking at Alliant Energy Stadium (91 6th Ave. N.), the former Shopko parking lot (1905 Lincoln Way) and at Ashford’s main campus (400 N. Bluff Blvd.). Shuttle buses will transport guests between these sites.

Ron Clark’s outstanding success with students from low-wealth areas of North Carolina and New York City led him to be named Disney's American Teacher of the Year in 2000. He is a New York Times Best Selling author, and his classes have been honored at the White House on three separate occasions. Clark has been featured on “The Today Show,” CNN, and the Oprah Winfrey Show. In addition to Winfrey naming Clark as her first “Phenomenal Man,” Clark’s teaching experiences in New York City are the subject of the uplifting film, “The Ron Clark Story,” starring Matthew Perry.

Most recently, Clark founded The Ron Clark Academy, a dynamic and innovative middle school serving students in Atlanta, GA. The privately-funded institution provides an out-of-the-box curriculum that focuses on raising test scores by using exciting, creative and engaging strategies. In addition to educating students, The Ron Clark Academy is a training site for teachers. Each year more than 3,000 educators from around the world visit the academy to observe Clark and his staff in action and to learn more about how to help students of all levels achieve great success.
