Ashford University Awards Students at December Graduation Ceremony

December 20, 2011 - Student awards for the fall 2011 semester were presented at Ashford University’s most recent graduation ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 10.

Clinton, Iowa campus students who were recognized for academic excellence included:

  • Laura Dawson, Clinton, IA, the Outstanding Accounting Student Award, sponsored by the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants to recognize the top accounting graduate;
  • Scott Maddasion, Clinton, IA, the business department’s Scholars Award, given to the highest ranking graduates in business;
  • Nathan Billany, Cottingham, East Yorkshire, England and Kristopher Bland, Albany, IL, the James L. Mooney Social Science Award, which recognizes the social science graduates with the highest grade point average;
  • Samantha Moller, Silvis, IL, the Alex Esquivel Promising Teacher Award, given to a teacher education graduate who shows exceptional potential as an educator;
  • Kristopher Bland, Albany, IL, the Sr. Marilyn Shea Outstanding Disposition Award, which recognizes teacher candidates with outstanding dispositions for teaching, including reflection, professional conduct, respect for diversity, high expectations, respect for others, compassion, advocacy, curiosity, dedication, honesty and fairness;
  • Aaron Blair, Rock Falls, IL, the Science/Mathematics Academic Excellence Award given to recognize students with an outstanding academic record and;
  • Jennifer Everson, Clinton, IA, the Psychology/Health Care Administration Academic Excellence Award, given to a student in either of these major areas having the highest Ashford GPA.

 

Ken Stock, who coached the 1991 Norway, Iowa High School baseball team during its infamous final season, was the keynote speaker during the graduation ceremony.

Ashford University’s spring 2012 semester begins on Monday, Jan. 9.
