Ashford Recognizes Students During Awards Ceremony

With its 2010-11 academic year nearing the end, Ashford University held a ceremony on April 14 to recognize campus students for academic excellence.

During the ceremony, special student awards were presented to:

* Bryant McFarren, Fulton, IL, the Accounting Student Award, sponsored by the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants to recognize the top accounting graduate;
* Dustin Barker, Davis, IL and Jason Tague, Clinton, IA, the Business Department’s Scholars Award, given to the highest ranking graduates in business;
* Brenda Jacobs, Camanche, IA and Justin Schaefer, Teeds Grove, IA, the James L. Mooney Social Science Award, which recognizes the Social Science graduates with the highest grade point average;
* Ann Slavin, Morrison, IL, the Joan Walsh Richeson Award, given to the liberal arts major who best personifies the values of a liberal arts education;
* Tara VanZuiden, Albany, IL, the Sr. Marilyn Shea Outstanding Disposition Award, which recognizes teacher candidates with outstanding dispositions for teaching, including reflection, professional conduct, respect for diversity, high expectations, respect for others, compassion, advocacy, curiosity, dedication, honesty and fairness;
* Kristin Clark, Clinton, IA, the Science/Mathematics Academic Excellence Award given to recognize students with an outstanding academic record and;
* April Wisong, Clinton, IA, the Psychology/Health Care Academic Excellence Award, given to a student in either of these major areas having the highest Ashford GPA.

Ashford University will end the 2010-11 academic year with its largest graduation ceremony ever, with 1,000 graduates expected to be in Clinton to receive their diplomas on Saturday, April 30. Ashford’s May Term is set for May 2-20 and its summer session will be held May 23-July 1.
