Women’s Golf Finishes Second in Spring Debut



April 9, 2009 – Behind an 81-point total, the Ashford University women’s golf team garnered runner-up honors to open spring competition at the Mustang Women’s Stableford Classic on Thursday hosted by Mount Mercy College.

The Saints trailed Waldorf College’s ‘purple’ squad (90) by just nine points for top team honors at Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Elmhurst, Iowa.

With the Stableford format differing from traditional stroke play, 12 points were awarded for a double eagle, eight points given for an eagle, four points for a birdie, two points per par and no points were handed out for a bogey or more.

Behind the guidance of AU Head Coach Josh Davis, the Saints finished higher than four Midwest Collegiate Conference opponents in a seven-team field that included Coe College, Iowa Wesleyan College, William Penn University, Mount Mercy and two teams were sent by Waldorf College, a ‘purple’ squad and a ‘white’ team.

Reigning MCC champion and sophomore Jordan Davis of Delmar, Iowa, took individual third-place honors with 26 points.

Freshman Brittany Boon of Bloomington, Ill., added another top-10 finish for Ashford, totaling 22 points for sixth.

Senior Lanna Bartko of Champaign, Ill., added 17 points while senior Kathryn House of Miles, Iowa, and sophomore Erica Clawson of Aledo, Ill., chipped in 16 and 9, respectively.

Up next for Ashford is the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament hosted by Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisc., April 18-19.
