Men’s Golf Finishes 13th in Spring Debut



April 11, 2009 – The Ashford University men’s golf team carded a final-round score of 336 to cap its spring debut at the Augustana Invitational on Saturday in Rock Island, Ill. The Saints finished tied for 13th with Palmer College in the 15-team field at the Highland Springs Golf Course.

Carthage College’s Tyler Wollberg (68) ran away with individual honors, winning by seven strokes to finish 7-under par through the tournament. Led by Wollberg, Carthage edged out St. Ambrose University by three strokes for the team title.

Senior Mike Hansen of Clinton dropped three strokes from his first-round total to post a 6-over-par 78 on the scorecard. He tied for 41st to lead the Saints individually to finish with a two-day total of 159.

Senior Mike Reddersdorf of Marengo, Ill., equaled his first-round tally with another 10-over-par 82 in Saturday’s effort.

Freshman Nick Newburg (85) of Milan, Ill., sophomore Duncan Forgey (91) of Camanche, Iowa, and freshman Justin Fritz (94) of Mt. Carroll, Ill., rounded out the Saints’ scoring.

Next up on the links for Ashford is a match-play competition against the University of Dubuque next week on Thursday. The two-team dual meet primes the Saints for the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament two days later in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
