Ashford University Opens New Athletics Facility on South Campus

October 14, 2013 – The new multi-purpose building at Ashford University’s South Campus complex was officially opened to the public during a ribbon-cutting ceremony conducted by University officials and the Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, Oct. 9.

The new building contains athletic locker rooms, public restrooms, an athletic training room, and a concessions facility. It joins an artificial turf soccer field and outdoor all-weather track that Ashford built on the site after purchasing the former Clinton Country Club property in 2010.

“Over the past three years we have significantly invested in capital projects in Clinton,” John Ballheim, Ashford vice president/campus director, told the crowd before the red ribbon was cut. “This new structure is the latest in a long series of projects that are continually modernizing and updating our 100-year-old campus.”

For the past three years, teams had to use locker rooms at Ashford’s main campus before and after competitions. “The new building adds important and needed facilities to our athletic facilities,” said Meg Schebler, Ashford director of athletics.

"On behalf of the business community and all our Chamber members, congratulations to Ashford University for their state of the art athletic complex," said Nathan Sondgeroth, president and CEO of Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce.  "For the time Ashford students are here, we hope they will think of campus as their neighborhood and Clinton as their home.  For Ashford student athletes and their fans, this facility is a wonderful addition."
