Dr. Rukmini Potdar is the Associate Dean in the College of Liberal Arts at Ashford University. She holds a PhD in Sociology from Cornell University, with a major in Social Demography and minors in International Nutrition and Social Science Research Methods. Her Master of Philosophy, Master of Arts, and Bachelor of Arts degrees, all in Economics, are from University of Pune, India. She holds a post-doctoral certificate in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health as well. Dr. Potdar has worked as a research associate for international non-profit organizations, researching the design and effectiveness of health interventions in women's reproductive health in developing countries. She comes to Ashford after having managed successful sociology programs at Livingstone College and Excelsior College. Her research interests in online higher education are diversity and inclusion. She says, “I am interested in adding to diversity programs at Ashford, in order to prepare students for an increasingly multicultural environment both in the workplace and life.” Dr. Potdar moved from Albany, NY to San Diego, CA for her position at Ashford. Her husband is a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist and has a busy practice in Amsterdam, NY. Her daughter is a practicing attorney in Baltimore, MD and her son is a senior in the chemical engineering program at Cornell. Dr. Potdar’s hobbies include reading mystery and spiritual books, watching movies, listening to Hindi and western classical music, socializing with friends, social dancing, and traveling to exotic places with her family.
