Sandra Smith, EdD, MSW, LCSW

Sandra Smith is an Assistant Professor in the College of Health, Human Services, and Science at Ashford University. She holds a Doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University, a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Utah, a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene, with a minor in Psychology from Weber State University, and an Associate’s degree in Dental Hygiene from Harper College, IL. She has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (UT and CA) since 2006. She is a state-certified Spanish interpreter and has done individual, couples, family and group therapy for both English and Spanish speaking clients. Dr. Smith worked as a dental hygienist for several years before going back to school. After that, she was employed as a Clinical Social Worker and later, as Clinical supervisor for MSW (Master’s of Social Work) interns and unlicensed social workers (MSW graduates) while working at R.J. Donovan Correctional Facility in Southern CA. At Ashford, she teaches and develops courses in a variety of areas. She says, “I am proud to work for Ashford University because of its excellent reputation. They are always improving, always creating new degree programs, and always hiring excellent instructors. I hope to be around for many years to come!” Dr. Smith is a mother to nine children and grandmother to eleven. She was born and raised in the San Francisco bay area and has lived in the states of Utah, Illinois, and Georgia, as well as Buenos Aires, Argentina.
