Bachelor of Arts in Homeland Security and Emergency Management, 2013
“You couldn’t ask for a better school that is also military-friendly.”
Sergeant Major Timothy Jones of Tignall, GA, who currently works for the Georgia Department of Corrections at the Whitworth Parole Center in Hartwell, GA, has over three decades experience serving in the military. In order to pursue his goal of eventually obtaining a job helping with national security and emergency response issues, he earned an Associate’s degree in criminal justice online before deciding to continue his higher education at Ashford University.
He found the perfect program for his career goals with Ashford’s Bachelor of Arts in Homeland Security and Emergency Management, which he completed in March 2013 at the age of 49. One term, he even made the Dean’s list – while on deployment in Afghanistan! “Staying in school during deployment while providing security and quality of life to over one thousand armed forces members and civilians was challenging,” Timothy says. “Juggling the military, my civilian job, and school was never easy. However, Ashford’s staff and instructors were always available to answer my calls and assist me with any issues or problems.”
Next up, Timothy plans on acquiring a Master’s degree. He hopes to inspire adult learners, high school graduates, and other military personnel to consider continuing their education as well. “You couldn’t ask for a better school that is also military-friendly,” he says. “Ashford’s staff and instructors are willing to go the distance with their students to help them accomplish their educational goals.
