Your pathway to becoming an educator starts at Ashford University — where you'll earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science with Education concentration online. Then, you'll start your Teacher Preparation Program at Rio Salado College Online. With this Post-Baccalaureate partnership, you can earn both your Bachelor's degree and your Arizona Teacher Certification in as few as 2½ years!*

Accelerate your path to degree completion: Ashford University offers many of the same courses required in the Teacher Preparation Program offered by Rio Salado College online. In addition, you can transfer up to 99 approved credits toward your Bachelor of Arts degree at Ashford, making your path to completion even faster.

Experience comprehensive coursework in the Rio Salado Teacher Preparation Program. You'll participate in four major components: online coursework, site-based practicums, nine weeks of student teaching, and Master Teacher Seminars. Online teacher education coursework begins every two weeks for easy scheduling, and you can complete the coursework in 14 weeks, or even as few as six weeks (with instructor approval).

Upon completion of Rio Salado coursework, you will be able to qualify to apply for an Arizona teaching certificate in elementary, secondary or special education. The Rio Salado Teacher Preparation Program is also accepted in the majority of states besides Arizona.

State Specific Teaching Information

Ashford University's campus is located in Clinton, Iowa, but the Rio Salado program leads to certification only in the state of Arizona. Ashford University's program is a bridge to the Rio Salado Program, not a certification program in and of itself. Completing Ashford University's Bachelor of Arts degree will not qualify you for Iowa or any other state certification. You will earn Arizona certification through the completion of the Rio Salado program after you have completed your Bachelor of Arts in Social Science with Education concentration at Ashford University. If you plan on teaching in a state other than Arizona, click here to look up state-specific information.
