Ashford University Announces Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Development with Differentiated Instruction

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 24, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Ashford University has announced a new Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Development with Differentiated Instruction (BAECDDI) degree program. Developed in response to the changing needs of educators in our diverse society, one of the main themes of the BAECDDI degree is differentiated instruction, which is currently an area of focus in education research and pedagogy. BAECDDI graduates will have the ability to engage in real-life learning experiences to meet the diverse needs of children in today's ever-changing world.

"The Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Development with Differentiated Instruction focuses on the needs of early childhood educators to distinguish content and curriculum for a variety of learners," said Dr. Tony Farrell, Ashford executive dean for the college of education. "Differentiating instruction for young children is an often overlooked skill for early childhood educators. We believe this degree program is a perfect addition to our existing early childhood education programs here at Ashford."

Students enrolled in the BAECDDI program are able to select one of two specializations – early learning or early intervention. In addition, each course in the program will have integrated support from both the Ashford library and writing center. Portfolium, the university's ePortfolio site, is integrated into the degree program, allowing students who complete the program to create a portfolio they can share with employers. Each course in the program also contains a Reflection in Action journal, where students have the opportunity to reflect on the content of each course, and how it connects to their respective career.

Prevailing employment opportunities for BAECDDI graduates as non-certified educational professionals include positions as instructional or teacher aides, teacher assistants, paraprofessionals, child care providers, and child care workers.
