Professional affiliations and memberships provide opportunities for our students to receive up-to-date content that supports them in their academic programs, to increase their networking opportunities, and to access materials and information from a variety of excellent sources.
Ashford University is a proud member of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), a professional association of teacher preparation programs representing 800 institutions in the United States, the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Guam. AACTE's mission is to serve all learners by providing educators with quality training and continuing education dedicated to increasing PK-12 student achievement.
Many traditional universities find themselves burdened by traditions and practices that prove ill suited for adult learners. The Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) supports higher educational institutions through its Adult Learning Focused Institution (ALFI) Initiative, which enables universities to improve learning opportunities for working adults and the employers who support their education. Ashford University is a proud member of CAEL and a participating ALFI institution. In accordance with CAEL's Principles of Effectiveness for Serving Adult Learners, a framework that outlines best practices for schools to adopt, Ashford has designed specific enrollment policies and procedures to make educational opportunities highly accessible to adult students.
Ashford University is an institutional member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). As the collective voice for academic nursing, AACN serves as the catalyst for excellence and innovation in nursing education, research, and practice.

The Council for Professional Recognition administers the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, which is the most widely recognized credential in Early Childhood Education and an important distinction in the work and employment environment. Ashford’s affiliation with the Council for Professional Recognition means Ashford’s AA in Early Childhood Education curriculum is approved to meet the CDA academic requirements. Additionally, students will have access to customized webinars and materials from the Council. Finally, this affiliation provides an assigned representative from the Council who understands Ashford University and who is well versed in how to effectively support the unique needs of students through the entire CDA application process.
The Institute of Certified Professional Managers (ICPM) is an organization that advances managerial excellence. ICPM is a globally recognized organization with Certified Managers in all parts of the world including the United States, Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. ICPM has been certifying managers for over four decades and helps new and experienced managers develop and verify their skills for career advancement through internationally recognized management development programs.
The Forbes School of Business &Technology™ at Ashford University’s Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration program has been acknowledged by ICPM so that students who complete the BA in Business Administration will be eligible to apply for the Certified Manager Certification (CM®), a professional credentialing program that verifies an individual's ability to manage and potential to lead with a level of competency, or the Foundations of Management Certification (FoM), designed for employees interested in transitioning to a management or supervisory role.
Ashford University is proud to be an Academic Member with the IIBA. The IIBA (International Institute of Business Analysis) is the leading international organization that maintains the global standards for business analysis and supports business analysis professionals. For over 13 years, the IIBA has driven the development of a standardized business analysis process that spans all industries, codifying the roles, skills and responsibilities of business analysts in an organization.
Business analysis skills are applicable in all industries. Dynamic organizations actively seeking to improve their processes enhance their productivity by leveraging professionals with business analysis skills. There are many career possibilities in business analysis which can be both challenging and well paid.
Membership in the IIBA is offered to Ashford University students at a reduced rate and gives students access to a library dedicated to the profession, and includes a member site with additional resources including a complimentary copy of the current Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK®). Membership also includes networking opportunities and targeted events.
The National CyberWatch Center, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), is a consortium of higher education institutions, public and private schools, businesses, and government agencies focused on building and maintaining a stronger Information Security workforce.
Members are critical to the growth and strength of the consortium in that they provide advice, effective practices, curricula, course modules, along with support and leadership for National CyberWatch Center programs and activities, and advocate for National CyberWatch Center initiatives to the broader community. The overarching mission of the center is to engage its membership and through them, drive the national conversation on cybersecurity education and workforce development.
Forbes School of Business and Technology™ students benefit from faculty access to the latest publications and material in the field of cyber security. Students within six months of program completion will also be able to post their resumes to a national job board.
As a member of the Presidents' Alliance for Excellence in Student Learning and Accountability, sponsored by the New Leadership Alliance for Student Learning and Accountability, Ashford University is publicly making a commitment to significantly improve assessment of, and accountability for, student learning outcomes on our campus. This initiative actively engages our stakeholders in examining assessment practices and using evidence to inform changes in teacher practice and student learning.
