CHAMPS Mentors: Success through Support
It’s January, and new year’s resolutions are echoing. Exercise more, eat healthy, go back to school. When we take on a new challenge, it makes sense to get the support of a pro. Doctors, trainers, coaches, and the like are valuable resources that support our success and serve as the final boost to help us reach our goals. So how might this apply to education? How about a mentor?
Along with first-hand experience in overcoming various challenges, mentors often have a passion and a gift for helping. And while the mentor-mentee relationship is focused on the unique needs of the mentee, mentoring gives both parties a chance to develop, gaining transferrable skills that apply in the workforce.
“We [the CHAMPS team] connect new Ashford students with continuing undergraduate, graduate, and alumni mentors,” shares Evan Gray, Student Support Program Advisor. “Many students come into Ashford not knowing what to expect. Perhaps you face some unique challenges to being successful as a student. Maybe you haven’t been to school in a long time, you struggle with time management, or taking care of the kids, and also being successful in school and are wondering, ‘How do other students do this?’ Well, you’re not alone.”
If you think you might benefit from being mentored or becoming one, take a look at CHAMPS. You’ll find informative videos, testimonials from mentors, mentees, and CHAMPS staff. In the end, you’ll build leadership and communication skills, give back to the University, and get more involved with the Ashford community.
