Recognizing Veterans Day
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs thoughtfully identifies Veterans Day as, “A celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.”
As a country, we have made it a priority to take time to recognize and celebrate our veteran community. And on some days more than others, we wave in parades and laugh at picnics, we ask for moments of silence, and we recall the many people who have shown us what it means to be part of a community.
Ashford helps keep this message alive with the Military Student Veteran Task Force (MSVTF). “The task force has a common goal and interest of finding ways to better support our military student population” says Stephanie Kinman, Military Student Development and Engagement Specialist.
Made up of many departments within the University, representatives bring their expertise to support and engage students. “I support other service members with the unique challenges that they face while either being active duty or making the transition to civilian life again,” shares Kinman. “I know, because I’ve been there, and I want to help make it as positive an experience for others.”
