Military spouses also serve their country and deserve recognition. As a proud supporter of the United States military, Ashford University is honored to offer five scholarship opportunities for San Diego County military spouses to earn either an associate or a bachelor’s degree.

You are eligible to apply for this scholarship if you are a spouse or surviving spouse of an active-duty member of the US military (including the Coast Guard), a National Guard or reserves member, or a veteran who: (a) is a legal resident of the United States of America and San Diego County, California; (b) is at least eighteen (18) years of age or older as of the date of entry; and (c) has a high school diploma or GED.

Only one entry per person, please. Applicants who submit multiple entries will be disqualified. Because recipients are chosen on the strength of their answers and not by luck, there is no statistical advantage to multiple entries.

A total of five (5) recipients will be selected by a scholarship committee designated by Ashford University. The judges will score each essay based on the essay’s relevance to the topic, its originality, and its overall impression. In the event of a tie, the tied applicant with the higher “overall impression” score, as determined by the judges, will be selected as the recipient. The judges’ decisions are final and binding in all respects.

Scholarship recipients will be notified by phone and mail on or about December 1, 2018. If a potential recipient is unreachable by phone after forty-eight hours, or if a notification is returned as undeliverable, that potential recipient may be disqualified and a new recipient will be chosen.

The exact dollar amount of the scholarship will vary depending on the degree program in which the recipient enrolls. The scholarship covers all tuition, required books, standard shipping costs for textbooks, and technology services fee costs for the duration of the program. A graduation fee at the conclusion of your program (currently $150) will be assessed.

Recipients will be notified on or about December 1, 2018. Their names will be published through a press release from Ashford University.
