Michelle Cranney, DHSc, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC
Dr. Michelle Cranney is an Assistant Professor in the College of Health, Human Services, and Science at Ashford University. She obtained her Doctor of Health Science with an emphasis in Leadership and Organizational Behavior from A.T. Still University, a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management from Davenport University (DU), a Bachelor of Science in General Family Life with an emphasis in Personal Finance from Utah State University, an Associate of Science in Health Information Technology from DU, and a Post-Graduate certificate in Health Information Management from Weber State University. She is a Registered Health Information Administrator, Certified Coding Specialist-Professional, and Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), as well as a Certified Professional Coder and Certified Professional Biller through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). She has over 20 years experience working in healthcare, spending most of her time focusing on revenue cycle management in outpatient facilities. She loves helping students achieve their educational and professional goals while simultaneously getting to share her knowledge and experiences in healthcare. Her advice to current and prospective students is, “Be proactive and never wait until the last minute to complete your work. Ask questions when you have them. You have classmates and an instructor ready to help each and every time you need help.” Dr. Cranney is a member of AHIMA, AAPC, HiMSS, and the Medical Group Management Association. She lives in the Seattle area where she enjoys biking, hiking, skiing, and playing tennis with her husband and two sons. She also loves cooking, and says her absolute favorite thing to do in her free time is to go on cruises with her family.
