Biography

Dr. Adam Gutschmidt is an Assistant Professor in the College of Liberal Arts at Ashford University. He earned his PhD in Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media from North Carolina State University (NCSU). His Master’s degree and Bachelor’s degree are both in Communication from University of Dayton. In 2009, he began instructing as an adjunct faculty member at Wright State University. He has taught a wide range of undergraduate communication courses and sees online learning as the future of education. In fact, his dissertation at NCSU examined how higher education can use social media platforms like Facebook as a course management system. Since coming to Ashford in 2013 he has taught a variety of communications courses covering topics ranging from communication theory to persuasion and argumentation. Dr. Gutschmidt says, “I am extremely excited about the opportunity I have to work at Ashford. I will always do my best to make sure that my excitement and passion for learning is passed on to every student who enrolls in my course.” Dr. Gutschmidt was raised near Cleveland, OH. Working as a remote instructor with Ashford has allowed him to relocate to that area in order to be close to his parents and siblings.

Accomplishments
Dr. Gutschmidt serves as a reviewer for the National Communication Association, Theater, Film, and New Multi Media Division and has published numerous papers on the topic of social media and online education.
