Gabe Starika-Jolivet, PhD
Dr. Gabe Starika-Jolivet is an Associate Professor of Political Science & International Relations and serves as the Chair of both the Political Science & Government program and the Military Studies program in the College of Liberal Arts at Ashford University. He earned his Ph.D. in Political Science with a specialization in Comparative Political Behavior from Purdue University, a Master of Business Administration from Ashford University, a Master of Laws in Public Law from Université Laval (Canada), and a Bachelor of Laws in Civil Law from Université de Lyon (France).
Upon graduation from Purdue, he moved to Kansas and created a brand new Political Science & Legal Studies program at Southwestern College. He then taught political science and international relations at Edgewood College in Madison, WI. He joined Ashford University in 2013, where he is in charge of providing institutional support that includes curriculum development, classroom management, and accreditation efforts. In addition, he is continuously promoting the development of new departmental and interdisciplinary research and education initiatives.
Since 2006, Dr. Starika-Jolivet is an Academic Associate for The Atlantic Council of the United States and a member of the Academic Advisory Board for McGraw-Hill. In addition, he has presented papers at the American Political Science Association and at the Midwest Political Science Association annual meetings, and he recently co-wrote and published an article on the challenges of global changes on national security and federal preparedness. Finally, he is an examiner for the International Baccalaureate and a reader for Advanced Placement in Comparative Politics offered by the College Board.
Dr. Gabe Starika-Jolivet, Political Science Chair, College of Liberal Arts, Dr. John Ackerman, College of Liberal Arts, co-authored an article entitled “Global climate change and national security: Institutional culture and leadership within three federal departments,” published in International Relations and Diplomacy.
Dr. Gabe Starika-Jolivet, Political Science Chair, College of Liberal Arts, Dr. John Ackerman, College of Liberal Arts, were the recipients of a 2015 Ashford University Fellowship to conduct research on the implications of climate change on national security.
Dr. Gabe Starika-Jolivet, Political Science Chair, College of Liberal Arts, Dr. John Ackerman and Jamie Weitl, College of Liberal Arts, and Patrick Johnson presented a workshop at the American Political Science Association’s Teaching and Learning Conference in February 2014. This group received an Ashford University Fellowship Grant that allowed them to collaborate on the workshop entitled, “Evaluating Course Revisions Multimedia Learning Technology, and their Impact on Student Engagement and Deep Learning.”
