Disability Employment Awareness Month

disability awareness month

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA.) While there have been significant strides in ensuring that the rights of individuals with disabilities are honored, there is much more to do in addressing stereotypes and ensuring access.

This month, Promoting Awareness and Wellness in Students (PAWs) spoke with Steve Salter, Director in the Office of Student Access and Wellness, about his role at the University, his experience as an advocate for individuals with disabilities, and what the 25th anniversary of the ADA means to him.

During his interview, Steve talked about the ADA, and what he sees at the heart of this critical piece of civil rights legislation. Steve shared that, to him, the ADA is about creating an inclusive society where the needs and differences of each individual are considered and respected on a daily basis.
