Jon Baumunk is an Assistant Professor at Ashford University, where he teaches finance and accounting courses. He holds a Master of Science in Accountancy from San Diego State University. He also earned a Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude. He completed his undergraduate studies in economics at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School in Philadelphia, where he graduated cum laude. Previously, Dr. Baumunk was a visiting assistant professor of law and the Interim Director of Academic and Bar Support at the University of La Verne College of Law, the Assistant Dean for Bar and Academic Services at Whittier Law School, an adjunct professor and the Director of Bar Programs at California Western School of Law, and an adjunct professor and bar preparation tutor at Thomas Jefferson School of Law. He has taught a wide range of courses from business drafting to trusts and wills. He has developed and conducted workshops in Advanced Legal Analysis, Employment Law, Intellectual Property Law, and Pre-Bar Review. Before entering academia, he practiced business and insurance law in Las Vegas, and was an investment analyst and portfolio manager at a state pension fund, a mutual fund, a bank, and the world’s largest sovereign wealth fund. He describes his philosophy of education this way: “Education should be much more than downloading information into students’ brains. To succeed in the business world, students need to practice the application of knowledge to real-world scenarios.” Dr. Baumunk lives in San Diego, CA.
