Jongbok Byun, PhD
Dr. Jongbok Byun is an Associate Professor in the Forbes School of Business at Ashford University, where he teaches courses in Business Information Systems. He is originally from South Korea, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Sogang University before starting his career as a researcher at that country’s biggest common carrier, Korea Telecom. There, he researched competitive strategies and business restructuring before deciding to learn more about his field. He went on to earn a Master’s degree in Business Administration and a PhD in Management of Information Systems from Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, CA. “I believe information technologies can change and redefine our higher education. Working at Ashford University is a great opportunity for me to participate in this momentum.” Dr. Byun believes that education should be fun but practical by always providing the purposes and goals of the knowledge, and he encourages students to be proactive. “Ask questions, contact instructors and peers, and make your own questions and answers regarding to the subject.” As someone who began his doctoral degree in his late 30s, Dr. Byun believes there is no late start in education. “Education is a never-ending journey. We need to learn though our lives. Be persistent in pursuing your goals.” Dr. Byun lives in San Diego with his wife and three children.
Dr. Jongbok Byun, an Associate Professor and Program Chair in the Forbes School of Business, co-authored A Case Study on Supply Chain Strategies and Buyer-Supplier Relationships of Nexen Tire America, Inc. The article was published in Business Education Research, 28(4), pp.433-455. The case study investigated the critical success factors in designing a supply chain management system. Based on the buyer-supplier relationship (BSR) model, Dr. Byun identified what made NexenAm so successful in the market.
