Lora Reed, PhD
Dr. Lora Reed is the Program Chair and an Associate Professor of the Bachelor of Arts in Human Resources Management in the Forbes School of Business at Ashford University. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Organization and Management with a certificate in Training and Development from Capella University. She also earned a Master of Arts in Applied Sociology from Vermont College of Norwich University. In addition to teaching at undergraduate through doctoral levels for about 20 years, Dr. Reed has consulted with businesses, non-profit organizations, and public safety organizations. Prior to returning to school as an adult learner, Dr. Reed was involved in employee and labor relations for several years in the U.S. Postal Service. She has been the president of a small, family-owned consulting firm, Peace Offerings, Inc., since its inception in the 1990s. In 2009, Dr. Reed was honored to be named one of the first three Greenleaf Scholars for her research on the relationship of servant leadership to employee retention in 9-1-1 emergency communications centers. Dr. Reed has authored and presented numerous papers and presentations. “Learning is a privilege and an honor,” she tells her students. “It is a skill we can continue to develop for a lifetime.” Dr. Reed lives in Bradenton, FL with her husband, a nature photographer. They enjoy travel, theatre, and music and other adventures in their spare time.
In February 2015, Dr. Reed published “Servant Leadership, Followership, and Organizational Citizenship Behaviors in 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Centers: Implications of a National Study” in Servant Leadership: Theory & Practice, vol 2, issue 1, pp. 71-94. Dr. Reed also recently led a team of Forbes School of Business faculty as principal investigator in a study entitled “FSB Think Tank Outcomes: Exploring Teaching, Learning, & Relationship Building in a Virtual Learning Community.”
