Veliota Drakopoulou, PhD
Dr. Veliota Drakopoulou is an Assistant Professor in the Forbes School of Business at Ashford University. She acquired a PhD in Applied Management and Decision Sciences with a concentration in Accounting from Walden University, a Master’s of Business Administration in Management from New York Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor’s of Science in Marketing from State University of New York at New Paltz. Dr. Drakopoulou is a New York Stock Exchange equities day-trader with diverse experience in fundamental analysis, technical analysis, SEC filings, SFAS133 pre-codification, bookkeeping, teaching, and research. Her prior practice includes a decade of teaching undergraduate and graduate level accounting courses onsite, online, and in hybrid format.
Dr. Drakopoulou believes online education is more student-centered than traditional brick-and-mortar education and has therefore made a conscious effort to adjust her teaching style to accommodate individual differences and enhance the learning of all students. “As a facilitator rather than a lecturer, my role is to select and filter information for student consideration, provide thought-provoking questions, and facilitate well-considered discussions. I also like sharing professional experiences and real-world examples to enhance students learning and prepare them for entering the business world.” Dr. Drakopoulou is originally from Greece and lived in New York City for nearly two decades before relocating to San Diego, CA. For fun, she enjoys open water kayaking, swimming, traveling, and socializing.
