William Blix is an Assistant Professor in the Forbes School of Business at Ashford University. He earned a Master of Business Administration from Regis University and a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Florida State University. He has completed his PhD course work in Business Administration from North Central University. Blix gained computer audit experience working for three years with Florida Power and Light in the Internal Audit department. After passing the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam, he worked for Baltimore-based accounting firm Ernst and Ernst. He then worked as a general auditor at a bank for five years.
Blix has worked with Price WaterHouse as a Senior Manager in charge of computer audit for their Philadelphia office. He was the main liaison between Price WaterHouse and Dupont Internal Computer Audit worldwide, where he had the opportunity to travel the world and work with clients such as Black and Decker, Dupont, Campbell Soup, Chessie Railroad, Kodak, American Airlines, Coors, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Bassett Furniture. Though accounting must often be taught in a linear fashion in order to build up concept information step by step, Blix believes learners need to also experience concepts as patterns and relationships. He says, "Experience as an Independent Auditor and Internal Auditor provides me with the aptitude and skill set needed to direct student attention to intellectual thought, clarity, and purpose. Therefore, I incorporate learning activities that support higher-level thinking and effective critical analysis. By doing so, I believe I increase the probability that students will acquire and develop useful and accurate core course concepts." Dr. Blix is married and has two adult daughters. He lives with his wife on a golf course in Bonita Springs, FL.
