She has served as Vice President of a nonprofit scholarship association since 2007. “I am passionate about getting to know my students. I love learning about each person: their experiences, their frustrations, and their triumphs. It’s a thrill to help students build an individual plan for success early in their college career. Ashford’s unique adult population is diverse, hard-working, and deserves nothing less than our full support.” Garten lives in Southern California with her rescued dogs and continues to write professionally, play guitar, paint, choreograph, restore antique furniture, and volunteer for the USO and local historic societies.
